Using Asterisk to Solve Health Problems and to Strengthen Health System Governance and Responsiveness in Many African Countries
The objective is to share how since 2013, we are leveraging Asterisk and are building health tools around it to be able to conduct many research-action projects in some countries in Africa. How from 2013 to 2014 we gave voice to people (including those usually who are not eared or does not have the tribune to talk) about what was good and bad in the healthcare system in Burkina Faso (public & private), citizen or health services workers How from 2015 to 2016 we reached out to people regularly to help them know better and fight malaria disease and how the result were also monitored through different groups with randomizing of voice messages & effective listening tracking How since 2017 to now are building with passion data collection platforms including various sources (voice, phone/tablet/ web site, digital-born...) to gather, analyze and share health care systems information at scale and continuously and how at the time I'm writing this submission we are thinking with research partners to deploy something to help against covid19 as well. We will also discuss how Asterisk as a community project helps to make this happen and how we contributed back to share knowledge and codes with the community.

Securing Your Enterprise Network with SBC
The importance of considering network security in VoIP/UC deployments cannot be understated. Unsecured VoIP networks are vulnerable to the same threats as regular data networks as well as many more, including toll fraud. But to protect a VoIP network requires more than simply locking it down from unsolicited outside data traffic as this would disable the primary function of a VoIP network: making and receiving calls. This is because, in making or receiving calls, the person called or calling from outside the network is technically sending unsolicited packets of data. Fortunately, there are several key tools network administrators can use to ensure their VoIP network remains safe from malicious activity. In this talk, learn about the key tools that are useful in securing VoIP networks with remote users.

Dealing with Company & Contact Center Operations Through a Pandemic
Prepare yourself and your company to deal with major events like the current pandemic through the use of open source technologies.

Through this pandemic, the logistics and operations of all the companies have changed. The main objective for the companies and organizations has been to provide their workers with technological tools for the home office or to remotely work. Nowadays companies had to evolve to continue their business operations and at the same time low expenses to keep business as usual and Company Financial Health on major events like this one. In our main experience, we had to deal with providing, routing, and monitoring all the VoIP Services/Tools/Applications and calls to fulfill the operations of our Contact Centers and Corporate Users with Open Source Technologies to achieve the main objective: Business Continuity and Company Financial health.

At the end of the day, we had to innovate and change how we did business to keep our employees and avoid layoffs. While other companies are dealing with paying high costs and expenses with Non-Open Source Technologies, we have achieved the next milestones using Open Source Technologies like Asterisk, FreePBX & more: Route calls through different locations, providers and technologies to reduce call costs using the lowest cost option.
Develop InHouse Software and tools to:
  • Use Big Data and Model Analysis to profile end-costumers data to automate outbound calls for our Contact Centers employees. This automation will allow our employees to have a better opportunity to sell certain products.
  • Monitor all inbound/outbound, develop tools and create metrics to renegotiate, cancel, or acquire provider services to achieve the lowest cost per call.
  • Monitor all our remote employee's connectivity to the internet and let them know if there are TelCo failures or failures with our VoIP Services Infrastructure to define new workarounds to continue with business continuity. Automate a big quantity of procedures, reports, and logistics to allow all our employees to access calls data and PBX functions through Open Source APIs. In the end, we'll be talking about how to create new strategies and use open source technologies to keep the operations of the company and business continuity.

Bridging calls using ARI across Asterisk instances
With a multi-server platform where we do not have any control over where a call is placed on we needed to bridge calls from one Asterisk instance to another. This seems to be an easy task but if you know ARI you will know it is not that simple to correlate calls across servers.

We have started with a very simple Alice calls Bob call scenario using ARI. From there on we developed a prototype with a remote-controlled ARI Application using Kafka and ARI Proxy. From there we have to solve the problem of Pickup or Transfering calls from one Asterisk to another. We had to find a way to control multiple Asterisk servers as if it is one single instance. From a business logic perspective, it does not matter if there is just one Asterisk involved or dozens and it must not matter if the business logic developer should have no need to learn Asterisk. We came up with a solution to bridge calls using Local and SIP channels. My talk will show what Problems we had to face and how our solution now looks like.

Blending Open source RTC tools to build an Omnichannel contact center
Explore the current offer of Open-source Real-Time Communication tools in order to provide a starting point to build a Full WebRTC Omnichannel Contact Center Solution

Given the current offer of Open-source Real-Time Communication tools, it is possible to consider combining several applications in order to bring a Full WebRTC Omnichannel Contact Center Solution. Indisputably Asterisk has been the most popular open-source framework for building communication applications in call center scenarios. These days messaging applications are in high demand. In this way, despite the short time in the market, Matrix is quickly emerging as an open standard for secure, decentralized, and real-time communication. Its specification includes direct chats, group chats and chatbots, end-to-end encryption, file transfer, high-quality voice/video WebRTC calls and in terms of interoperation it has an outstanding ability to bridge existing platforms like Slack, IRC, XMPP, WhatsApp, Facebook, Hangouts, into a global open matrix of communication. Finally, the FOSS ecosystem is full of impressive tools that can be combined to bring highly competitive solutions to contact centers. Hence, the purpose of this talk is to explore these tools and provide a starting point for their use.
