With a multi-server platform where we do not have any control over where a call is placed on we needed to bridge calls from one Asterisk instance to another. This seems to be an easy task but if you know ARI you will know it is not that simple to correlate calls across servers.

We have started with a very simple Alice calls Bob call scenario using ARI. From there on we developed a prototype with a remote-controlled ARI Application using Kafka and ARI Proxy. From there we have to solve the problem of Pickup or Transfering calls from one Asterisk to another. We had to find a way to control multiple Asterisk servers as if it is one single instance. From a business logic perspective, it does not matter if there is just one Asterisk involved or dozens and it must not matter if the business logic developer should have no need to learn Asterisk. We came up with a solution to bridge calls using Local and SIP channels. My talk will show what Problems we had to face and how our solution now looks like.
